The dot SE country-code top-level extension was created in 1986 and delegated to Sweden. During the first years after its introduction, the registration process was very restrictive, so a very low number of domain names were booked. Persons were permitted to book only one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was a necessity, i.e. merely Swedish persons, firms and organizations were able to grab a .SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was liberalized notably and, as a result, the number of dot SE domains has been increasing each year.
